The Young Showground is located close to the main town centre and offers two forms of camping for travellers.
Paid camping with power and water
The main showground camping area is spacious and has numerous grassed level sites offering power and water. It is located towards the rear of the showground near the amenities buildings. The amenities are kept clean and tidy and kept locked, however, a key is provided upon payment. Therefore you will need to call the caretaker in advance so they can meet you on arrival. Pets are permitted if kept under full control.
Free Camping area – FSCV Only
There is a separate area allocated on ‘The Hill’ which is only available for Fully Self Contained vehicles. Campers are welcome to stay in this area, however, will have NO access to Power, Water or the amenities block.
HOW TO GET THERE
Access is easiest via the main Highway through Young. Turn East into Lovell Street, which turns into Whiteman Ave and then continues onto Murringo Road. Look for KFC on the corner as a landmark. The entrance to the Showground is about 1.5km on the left once you turn off the highway and is clearly marked. The Show Ground is also used as the Young Harness Racing Track.
SITE ACCESS
Campground – If you are staying at the paid powered sites, as you drive in, follow the road to the right, then continue on the left hand lower track towards the buildings, where you will see the powered sites.
Free Campsites – If you are staying in the free campsite section, follow the road to your right as you enter the gates, as you round the bend you will see the ‘Hill’ to your right. The track up the hill is dirt and not to steep, there are some sites along this top area.
FEES & BOOKINGS
Fees are from $25/night including power, $10 without power – $20 refundable key deposit.
NOTE: Please note if you are wanting to stay on a paid campsite with power, water, and amenities access, you will need to ring ahead so the caretaker can organise a key for access. Contact number is below.
The Free Campsite area is only available to FSCV. Please do not abuse this privilege by trying to sneak into toilets and plug into power outlets. This will only cause the showground to stop this service.
CLOSURES & EVENTS
Please note that the Showground is closed at certain times of years for major events. Camping during these times is not permitted in either section. Known events are as follows:
Annual Young Show – Held in mid-September each year. Grounds closed for 1 week.
Pony Club Meeting – Held in the July School holidays each year. Ground Closed for 1 week.
Dog Shows – Usually held in November each year. Grounds closed during this time
Golf Events – Usually held in November each year. Grounds closed during this time.
The Showgrounds may be closed for events at other times so it is always advised to ring ahead.
