Yellow Patch camping zone covers all western beach camp sites in the Yellow Patch area, between North Point and Heath Island. There are no camp sites at Heath Island. Sites vary in size and range from secluded sites to close, social camping areas. Many sites have sea views and shade. This camping zone offers surf beaches. The camping zone can be reached by 4WD only. Parking is available beside camp sites. Avoid parking or driving over dunes and vegetation as these areas are prone to erosion and may have shorebirds and turtle nests. It is accessible for camper trailers.
Number of sites: a maximum of 14 sites are available, all marked with totems. Seasonal closures mean that not all sites will be full all year round.
Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car, camper trailers and large groups.
Camp site surface: sand.
SITE ACCESS
The camp site is on the western side of island between North Point and Heath Island.
Moreton Island is 40 km offshore from Brisbane. The island can be reached by ferry, barge or boat. Barges and ferries for vehicles and passengers run daily. If you are not taking a vehicle, choose your island destination point and book the ferry or barge from the corresponding departure point.
Private boat access
Moreton Island is in exposed waters. Large seas can be experienced between Moreton Island and the mainland. Consider your experience and the suitability of your vessel, and take into account currents and predicted weather and sea conditions when planning your trip. No public moorings are available at Moreton Island.
4WD access
4WD (4WD) vehicles are essential for driving on the island. 4WD vehicles with high clearance and low range function are strongly recommended. All-wheel drive vehicles without true 4WD function and vehicles with low clearance will have difficulty along inland tracks and in soft sand, and are therefore not suitable on Moreton Island.
Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.
FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.
Fees for camping permits are:
$5.75 per person per night or $23.00 per family group per night.
$3.20 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions.
FAMILY RATE. For camping fees, a family group is defined as one or two adults and accompanying children under 18, up to a total of 8 people. Children under 5 years of age are free.
Read more about CAMPING COSTS & BOOKINGS.
FACILITIES
There are no facilities on the camp site. The camping zone offers surf beaches. For hygiene purposes, campers who are planning an extended stay should bring a portable toilet. Please do not place contents into toilets on the island-it destroys the bacteria in the systems. All portable toilet waste must be removed from the island. North Point campground is a short drive offering hybrid toilets and a cold water shower.
RULES
Keep to defined vehicle tracks and walking trails.
