Wooloondool Campground – Murrumbidgee Valley National Park (FC)

Wooloondool offers plenty of camping spots for caravans, campers, and tents, within groves of black box trees. River red gums line the nearby Murrumbidgee River, providing habitat for ring-tailed possums, wallabies, kangaroos and wombats.

Wooloondool, part of Murrumbidgee Valley National Park, is within easy reach of the town of Hay, and it’s an ideal place to camp. Many set up camp at Wooloondool as it’s a great place for fishing – yellowbelly, redfin, brim, catfish, and carp, as well as crayfish during the season, can all be caught here. Lions Fishing Tournament is held every February, part of which is at Wooloondool.

If fishing doesn’t float your boat, you can stretch your legs on an easy walk along the riverbank to secluded swimming and picnicking areas. It’s also a great place to launch a kayak or canoe and to explore the park through its picturesque waterways.

SITE ACCESS
Unsealed road/trail – 2WD vehicles – 4WD required in wet weather.
Getting there: Wooloondool is in the regional park precinct of Murrumbidgee Valley National Park. To get there: From Hay Post Office, drive north along Lachlan Street 0.4km turn left onto Cadell Street (Maude Road). Travel 6.7km along Maude Road. Just past the 4 Mile Reserve is a left turn into Wooloondool Regional Park. Drive along dirt road 0.7km to entrance just over a rise in the road.

Please note: GPS Co-Ordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you as close to the camp site as possible, or to the National Park entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

FEES & BOOKINGS
There are no fees or bookings applicable to this campground.

FACILITIES
A boat ramp for launching is nearby at 4 Mile Reserve, just before Wooloondool.

RULES
No powered sites.
Although the majestic river red gums that line the Murrumbidgee River create shady picnic spots, try to avoid sitting directly underneath as they are notorious for dropping large branches without warning.
You’ll need to bring your own drinking and cooking water. Firewood may not be collected from the park. Firewood is not supplied, so please bring your own.
Dogs are permitted in this part of the park, though you’ll need to keep them on a leash at all times and remember to pick up after them.
If you’re bushwalking in this park, it’s a good idea to bring a topographic map and compass, or a GPS.
Check the weather before you set out as the road to Wooloondool can become boggy when it rains.
A current NSW recreational fishing licence is required when fishing in all waters.
There is limited mobile reception in the park.
You are encouraged to bring gas or fuel stoves, especially in summer during the fire season.
