Western Summit Camp is one of four campgrounds along the Bartle Frere Trail. It offers bush camping opportunities in a small clearing beside a creek. Camping is also allowed along any part of the trail if required.
Access: the campground can be reached only on foot.
Number of sites: A small open area without separately defined sites.
Campsites are suitable for: walk-in camping.
Campsite surface: dirt and grass.

SITE ACCESS
8 kilometres walk from the Junction camp and the Atherton Tableland (west) end of the walking trail. The Bartle Frere summit is 750 metres from this camp.
East end of trail-Josephine Falls, 75 kilometres south of Cairns
West end of trail-Atherton Tableland, 78 kilometres south-south-west of Cairns

Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite. All camping along the Bartle Frere trail must be pre-booked-self-registration at camping areas is not possible. Bookings are not for specific camping areas, but for the trail as a whole.
Fees for camping permits are:
$6.55 per person per night or $26.20 per family group per night.
$3.60 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions.
FAMILY RATE. For camping fees, a family group is defined as one or two adults and accompanying children under 18, up to a total of 8 people. Children under 5 years of age are free.

FACILITIES
There are no facilities on the camp site.

RULES
Keep to defined vehicle tracks and walking trails.
Camp in designated areas to avoid damage to fragile vegetation.
Take rubbish home with you – if you carry it in, carry it out.
