The Underbool Recreational Reserve is located in the tiny township of Underbool in the Mallee region of north-west Victoria. Situated between two of Victoria’s finest and most remote National Parks makes this a great place for a stopover while you visit the Pink Lakes in the Murray-Sunset National Park, the Snow Drift Sandhill in the Wyperfeld National Park, or take in the sights of the Mallee region.
The camping area is pet-friendly with unpowered and powered sites suitable for tent campers right through to big rigs. If you need a powered site you need to drive the circumference of the oval but these sites are limited so it will be first in best dressed. The unpowered camping area is beside the function centre. The sites are flat with plenty of shade under the Mallee trees or choose a spot in the sun if you want to make use of your solar.
The Recreational Reserve facilities include clean and well-maintained toilets as well as hot showers. There is a playground for the children, a football oval, and tennis courts and if you’re wanting to cool off, the town swimming pool is only a short 700 metre walk from the grounds.
Underbool is serviced with a General Store for any essentials, a post office, bank agency, a garage for fuel or repairs, and a bush nurse. The town of Ouyen is a short 50klm drive with an IGA, Butchers, Bakery, Newsagents, Chemist, and more. Murrayville is 60klm east and Walpeup 20 klm west.
HOW TO GET THERE
Underbool sits on the Mallee Highway 50km west of Ouyen, 87km east of Pinnaroo.
Once in the town area, turn north over the railway line opposite the Hotel. The recreation ground is then diagonally to your right.
SITE ACCESS
There are two side-by-side entrances to the grounds. Larger motorhomes and big rigs are best to take the entrance on the left. The gravel road makes easy access for all vehicles.

THINGS TO DO
Murray-Sunset National Park and The Pink Lakes
The Murray-Sunset National Park stretches from the Murray River at Lindsay Island in the north to the Pink Lakes near Underbool in the south. The park is great for four wheel drive touring, bushwalking and visiting the Pink Lakes.
The Pink Lakes are 60kms west of Ouyen along the Mallee Highway and really are pink. There are different shades of pink depending on the conditions. The pink is at its most intense after rain and best in winter and spring when the wildflowers are in bloom. There are excellent walking tracks around the lakes where you will see an abundance of bird and wildlife and bird life. Keep an eye out for local kangaroos, wallabies, emus and echidnas and the Red-Rumped Parrots, Mallee Ringnecks, Spotted Pardalotes and White-Fronted Chats that call the region home.
Wyperfeld National Park
Wyperfeld is one of Australia’s most fascinating national parks. When it rains the semi-arid landscape is transformed by tiny desert plants that sprout from long-dormant seeds, carpeting the ground with clusters of flowers.
