Tin Mines campground – Woomargama National Park (FC)

The location is suitable for Camper Trailers, Camping beside my vehicle, and Tents.

In a grassy clearing on the banks of Basin Creek, you’ll find Tin Mines campground. As the name suggests, the surrounding land was once mined and you can still see remnants of its historic heritage scattered throughout the neighbouring bush – a sluice hole, dredge holes, water races and pieces of equipment.

Today, it’s a lovely place to camp and a great option when looking for a family camping holiday. Enjoy the cool shade of the swamp gums, which bear cream flowers during spring, and soak up the solitude. Located on Hume and Hovell walking trail, this secluded campground is often frequented by those hiking the Yass-Albury track.

You might also encounter some other locals, wallabies, wombats and echidnas can all be seen in the area. Noisy gang-gang cockatoos and different species of parrots rest in the trees and feed on the flowers, so get those birdwatching binoculars out. Nocturnal animals, including gliders, live high in the branches and become active as the sun sets, and you might hear the deep hoots of the endangered powerful owls during the night.

SITE ACCESS
Unsealed road/trail – 4WD only – Dry weather only.
Tin Mines campground is located in the western section of Woomargama National Park. To get there from Albury: Travel north on Hume Highway. Take the Woomargama exit. Turn right into Tunnel Road and travel about 10km to the park boundary. Turn left onto Tin Mines trail and travel approximately 20km to the campground.

Please note: GPS Co-Ordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you as close to the camp site as possible, or to the National Park entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

Fees and Bookings are not applicable for this campground.

Drinking water, Picnic tables, Non-flush toilets. Fire rings (firewood supplied).

RULES
Sites are not marked.
Tank water is available at this campground, but you’ll need to treat or boil it before drinking.
This is a remote campground, so please make sure you arrive well-prepared.
Sites are not powered.
Generators are permitted to be used in particular areas within this campground.
Rubbish bins are not available, so please take your rubbish with you when leaving.
Check the weather before you set out as the road to Tin Mines campground can become boggy when it rains.
No domestic animals allowed.
