Spacious camp on the banks of the Murray River.
This location for free camping doesn’t get much better. Located at Swan Reach, SA, you can camp right on the banks of the Murray River. They are spacious sites with heaps of room to spread out and pitch tents. There is a ferry, run by the SA government for free, and it operates 24/7 to take you back and forth across the river. The ground can be quite hard and sandy, so make sure you bring some strong pegs. In mentioning that, there are some grassy spots, but you will need to get in early.
FACILITIES
Whilst it is a free campground, the location does provide a flushing toilet. There are bins, some shady areas and some fire pits as well as a dump point. Mobile phone coverage is acceptable. Camping is limited to 5 nights only.
HOW TO GET THERE
Take the ferry north across the Murray River. The camp is 400m east of the ferry. There is a service road off the Stott Hway for easy access.
THINGS TO DO
Birdlife is abundant here. You can access the Ferry, to pop across the river to partake in the services offered by Swan Reach. With cafes, hotels, grocery stores bakery and a museum as well.
The Big Bend Cliffs are a wonder to view, with local caves nearby and a conservation park.
