This Council provided camp has both powered and unpowered areas available on the outskirts of town and is suitable for all types of rigs, from trailers and vans up to the big rigs and 5th wheelers, with plenty of room to manoeuvre. The powered area is a large, flat, open bitumen area where there is power available for a small number of vans, as well as a toilet and shower block, while the adjacent Memorial Park includes picnic and bar-b-q facilities and shaded seating. Adjacent is a large open grassed area with a scattering of shade trees fro unpowered camping.

The lagoon is bounded by Memorial Park, and the lovely walk that circles it starts there. The eucalypts and native flora attract numerous bird and animal species along the way, and a spot of fishing could see yellow-belly, jewfish and even a few yabbies on the night’s dinner table menu.

The town has all the amenities you would expect in a rural centre – hospital, supermarket, fuel, police etc. so you’ll be able to pick up all the necessary supplies. There is also a railway station.

The town and surrounding region has a rich history, a sample of which is on display at the Historical Museum in town. Tara’s unique and interesting self-guided tour, ‘Yesteryears by Shank’s Pony’, reveals the development of architecture and infrastructure in the area over the years.

This has to be seen to believed. One of the best camping spots I ever seen. Has all the ammenatiews brand new including showers. Has power hookup for 6 vans (more to come they say) and heaps of space… and throw in a pituresque lagoon taboot. What more could you ask for? Well there is no water hookup, but gee, for $10/day with power ($5 no power)… dont complain. Extremely well done Tara, and thanks for a great week stay for only $50
