Help on our Permaculture Homestead

Come and see a Permaculture site in development – Our attempts at living more lightly on planet earth and towards being more self reliant. Learn how we grow a heap of our food in permaculture style no dig gardens. (We can usually sell surplus vege to you for the duration of your stay.) Animals are a large part of our systems, so there are chickens, ducks, goats, and guinea pigs. Some free ranging, others in moveable fencing. If you have an interest in solar electricity we can show and talk about this as well as rocket stoves and so on. Actually we can talk your ears off about Permaculture stuff!! compost, greenhouse, worms, pizza oven, shadehouse, water systems, grafting fruit trees, herbs, preserving, and so on….

Tasks might include: – planting seeds – planting vegetables – taking and planting cuttings – digging holes in rocky ground – cutting mulch with scythe – sawing and splitting firewood – mixing concrete – helping with any building job – harvesting food – creating mulched garden beds – watering plants with hose or buckets – collecting rocks. We’re after a fair exchange of help for learning and a place to stay (and spare vege, fruit if you’d like), so perhaps 3 hours a day per person as a rough guide, but we are happy to discuss.

Camp in a quiet area among pine trees and eucalyptus. Explore our heritage and nature trail at your leisure. This is through naturally regenerating sclerophyll forest on the side of a hill (about 25 acres).

The driveway is about 200m long with some humps to divert water to one side. Access to the camping area is suitable for vans of any size, motorhomes, and smaller caravans. Branches of the trees in the photo can be trimmed as necessary. Turning a caravan around could be a bit tricky, but we have a ‘find a way’ attitude here… so we’ll do it.
