THINGS TO DO
The Park is situated beside the beautiful Toolara Forest which is a great place for either a brisk or a leisurely walk where you will see plenty of wildlife and interesting plant life.
In the next road approx. 1km on the right toward Gympie, is the Silky Oak Tea Gardens which are open seven days for morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
Tin Can Bay is just 24kms down the road where the water is calm, an ideal spot for the tinny, fishing and picnicking. The dolphins come into the boat ramp where you can feed them from 8am most mornings. Tin Can Bay is a great source of fresh sea food and has a golf course, Country Club, bowls club and yacht club. It has all the essential services while still retaining the quiet village image.
Rainbow Beach is the gateway to Fraser Island and a place which in the past couple of years has really increased its pace and facilities. The beach is patrolled by life guards and the coloured sands are spectacular. There are numerous restaurants, some with spectacular views overlooking the ocean.
During your stay with us why not visit Fraser Island? We can make your booking for your day trip with the friendly, family owned company which has been operating for 21 years. They look after you so well and tell you so much about the Island. Ask us about the trip when you book in http:/www.tourfraser.com.au
To the west of Standown Park 24kms, is the historic gold mining town of Gympie. A visit to the Gold Mine Museum gives you the whole story and you can arrange to pan for your own gold and go on an underground tour. The Woodworks Museum is something different and very interesting to go through.
Standown Park is a good base for day trips to the above places and Maryborough or Hervey Bay for whale watching, Maleny and Montville for the many arts and crafts or Noosa or maybe the famous Eumundi Markets. All of these places are within an hour or so away and Brisbane is only two hours south.
