Southport Hotel and Caravan Park (CP)

Southport Hotel and Caravan Park has it all, and you can’t get any further south as it’s Tasmania’s and Australia’s most Southern Pub. A warm and family-friendly hotel with a bar and restaurant, a caravan park and a store, all  situated on 12 acres of native bush land just up from the Kingfish Beach Jetty.

The park is pet friendly and offers a range of powered and unpowered camping sites, cabins and self contained units. Powered sites include a select number of concrete slab sites and drive through access for those who don’t want to unhitch. Sites are within close proximity to the camp kitchen and amenities and are suitable for tents through to larger RV’s.  The unpowered camping sites are set along a small creek and have ample room for you to enjoy the natural bush setting. Camp fires are permitted and there is access to camp kitchen with electric BBQ, toilet, shower and laundry facilities.

This is a great spot to catch up with family and friends who don’t have a van as they also offer a range of alternate accommodation. There are 1 & 2 bedroom motel units, self-contained cabins and there is also a bunk room that sleeps up to 6 and perfect for groups or a bunch of friends.

Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the bar and the great value  meals in the restaurant whether its lunch or dinner or both. The dining room overlooks a beautiful natural bush setting and perfect for watching the antics of the local wild life. The hotel is open everyday from 12pm until late and the restaurant for lunch from 12pm – 2pm and dinner from 6pm – 8pm.

The onsite shop/kiosk is open 7 days from 8am – 5pm and has a range of convenience foods, selected groceries including fresh local meat, a postal agency, cafe lunches, fish and chips,  espresso coffee and bottle shop. You will also find a great range of fishing gear, ice, bait, fuel, oil and Swap n’ Go bottled gas for 8.5kg and 3.5kg gas bottles.
This is also Australia’s most southern petrol outlet so stock up and refuel before you head off to explore what the Far South has to offer.

HOW TO GET THERE
Located right on the Huon Highway/A6 97km south of Hobart, or 60km south of Huonville, just down the road from the Jager Rd intersection.

SITE ACCESS
Access is directly off the Huon Highway and is sealed and level with a service road entrance where you can refuel and check-in at the same time. Plenty of room to maneuver and wide enough to allow large RV’s and caravans. The camping ground entry is right next to the pub and fuel depot.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Fee is from $18/couple per night for Unpowered Sites, $28/couple per night for Powered Sites, $5/additional person per night. Children under 5 are free.
$69/couple per night for Cabins, $100/couple per night for Bunk Rooms, $120/couple per night for Motel Units.

The Hotel reception provides a display of tourist brochures, maps and information about Southport and the surrounding regions inside.The Southport Lagoon is a must see and local attractions include beautiful coastal walks, swimming and surfing beaches.

Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs
A short drive from Southport where you can take a 45 minute guided tour that takes you through some of the finest dolomite caves in Australia. Relax in the thermal spring pool after your tour or have a BBQ in their picnic area.

Ida Bay Railway
Take the historic Ida Bay train to the end of the line where you will learn the history of the area, find stunning white beaches where you can relax and enjoy a picnic.

Tahune Airwalk.
An easy day trip from Southport finds the Tahune Airwalk and reserve, set on the banks of the Huon River. A 597m walk amongst the trees, 20m above ground.
