One of the few buildings remaining from the once goldfield town of Ravenswood is the Railway Hotel. They have a wide lawn suitable for camping at the rear of the hotel. They also offer a friendly relaxing restaurant and bar which makes is a great place for stopover. Either to unwind with a cold drink or enjoy a freshly brewed coffee, Railway Hotel is ideal place to unwind and forget about the hustle and bustle.
HOW TO GET THERE
It is located 88km from Charters Towers. Take Flinders Highway (A6) 47km to Burdekin Falls Dam Road and drive just over 40km to the corner of Barton Street and the Hotel. From central Townsville it is 89km to Burdekin Falls Dam Road, then as above.
SITE ACCESS
Site access is straight off Burdekin Falls Dam Road where there is an opening at the left side of the hotel which will lead you to the camping ground at the rear.
FEES & BOOKINGS
There is no charge to camp at this location, but they would appreciate your patronage.
THINGS TO DO
You can visit some of the local attractions which include Courthouse Museum, Mabel Mill, Ravenswood Community Church, Ravenswood Ambulance Station, London North Mine, Thorps Building, Pandanus Creek Battery and White Blow Environmental Park. There are a couple of things to do such as Ravenswood Adventures and Ravenswood Ghost Tours.
