Prowse Gap Rest Area (FC)

Camp off the Stuart Highway

Prowse Gap Rest Area is a free overnight rest area located off the Stuart Highway with rows of trees in between the highway. The pet-friendly site is accessible to motorhomes, caravans, camper trailers, and big rigs with areas suitable for tents.

The maximum stay is 24 hours with facilities available such as toilets, picnic tables, fire pits, and rubbish bins.

Whilst this area is technically a Rest Area, the Northern Territory Government has permitted the use of this particular Rest Area for Overnight Stays. Time limits do apply and are stipulated in our features below, but there should also be signs available on-site to indicate this.

A rest area is a safe area beside the road where motorists can pull off the roadway to rest. The intention of rest areas is to provide a place for a short break.

Please note: Rest areas are not designed to be camping grounds or caravan parks. Using rest areas for multiple overnight stays as part of a planned itinerary is not in keeping with their intended purpose. Those needing facilities for an extended stay are encouraged to look for camping areas or caravan parks in towns along the way.
