Possum Park (CP)

Possum Park at Miles offers a peaceful reprieve and very unique experience. Set on 360 bush acres, it offers a variety of accommodation, it has a dedicated section for Caravans and Motorhomes, offering full services sites with power. There is also a non powered section further away from the amenities.

Possum Park is on the site of a former Air Force base that was used to secretly hide bombs during WW2. There are 20 underground bunkers on the site, some of which have now been fully converted into underground accommodation. There are also several train carriages, and self contained cottages. They are also in the process of converting an old Vickers Viscount 756C aircraft which will also become future accommodation.

There is plenty to explore at Possum Park with bush walks that meander through the old bunkers, or there is a quiet library and TV Room in some of the old train carriages. The hosts are very friendly and welcome travellers, often attending Happy Hour which is held in the afternoon around the massive campfire.

It’s an ideal halfway stopover to the Carnarvon Gorge or Rockhampton and North Queensland, and it’s on the preferred route to the ‘Hall of Fame’ and the Matilda Highway.

SITE ACCESS
Access is via the Leichhardt Highway 20km North of Miles. The driveway is clearly marked. The driveway is a long and good dirt road and meanders through the bush all the way to the main office. As you enter the main office is in one of the bunkers on your left. Stop there and someone will give you further directions to your site. There is one sharp bend, but taken slowly should not pose a problem, however, if over 18m long, let them know as they have an alternative entry point.
