Welcome to The Fair Dinkum Aussie Rainforest Retreat
The Platypus Bush Camp is nestled in the beautiful lowland palm-rivine rainforest of Finch Hatton Gorge in the Pioneer Valley outside Mackay, Qld. The campsite is just 2kms from the largest stretch of pristine rainforest in Australia, the “Eungella National Park” and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy mother nature at her best.
The friendly atmosphere, natural beauty and the uniqueness of the Platypus Bush Camp have guests returning time after time and describing it as nature’s paradise. Host Wally says “whether you choose to pitch a tent, park up in the RV or stay in one of the timber-slab huts, the only way to really know how magical this place is, is to get yourself here.”
The camping area is spacious and quiet with plenty of shade for tent campers, caravans, and motorhomes. Secluded campsites are also available by special arrangement. The camping area is well equipped and campers have access to toilets, rainforest showers, a large picnic and cooking shelter with tables, benches, sink and two fire pits, a small bush bar to lean on (BYO), and nature library.
There is no power, no television, no mod-cons, this is the real deal. The hustle and bustle and the sounds of civilisation are soon forgotten as you listen to the music of nature all around you; the bubbling creek, the calls of birds and the chirping chorus of cicadas, frogs, and crickets.
One of the best ways to experience the wonders of the bush camp is to spend a night or two in one of the expertly built tree houses that can accommodate two to three people. The huts create a perfect environment for you to truly experience the rainforest atmosphere. Nestled unobtrusively amongst the rainforest palms, they boast open-air windows and spectacular views of the waterways and trees. They have pull-down canvas sides to make it private and cosy, and mosquito nets in case of the very rare insect. Hut guests have access to hot showers, kitchen, and dining facilities.
Enjoy the crystal-clear Platypus viewing pool where could spot a platypus on an early morning frolic and a huge rock swimming pool. You can enjoy bird watching will see lots of wildlife and enjoy swimming in pristine waterholes. At night you can sit by the campfire amidst the trees, play your guitar or make damper and billy-tea by the soft flicker of a kerosene lamp.
This is Eco-tourism to the MAX!
