Whether you’re just passing through or have the time to stay awhile and savour the local area’s wide-open Australian Landscape and rich history, you’ll enjoy a visit to the Heritage Listed (and apparently haunted) Oakabella Homestead. Tours of the 13 room homestead and outbuildings are a popular way to discover the property’s past. The Devonshire teas and meals at the café are always in demand.

Situated between the highway and the coast, the Oakabella Homestead camping area is large and open, with plenty of room to set up caravans or tents and all types of vehicles. The sites are unpowered, but there is provision for charging mobiles and the like. Hot showers and clean amenities are incorporated at the site. The park is pet-friendly and allows children under 12 to stay at the campground for free.

The town of Geraldton lies on the coast just south of the homestead, and the historic religious buildings at nearby Mullewa will interest the history and architecture buffs.

Kalbarri’s own fascinating local history and interesting Pink Lake lie just to the northwest, and the myriad of easy walking trails in the area with abundant wildflowers in season all attract visitors to the area.

HOW TO GET THERE
Oakabella is accessed by turning off the North West Coastal Highway (Hwy 1) 32.9km north of Geraldton or 18.2km south of Northampton onto Starling Road to the west. Immediately keep left to stay on Starling Road, the property is 2.8km on the left.

SITE ACCESS
You will see a car park and reception from the road, they are both well signed, just find a park and head to reception to check-in.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Fee is $12/person per night. Children $5/person per night (5-16 years)

THINGS TO DO
Indulge yourself with the famous scones in the air-conditioned comfort of the fully licensed tearooms – The Oakabella Country Kitchen. It also offers a selection of beer and wine for your enjoyment.

Loved our stay at Oakabella. The new managers were absolutely fantastic. Scones delicious. Roast and Spit dinners perfect. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Plan on returning soon.
