Northern Foreshores Copeton Dam Campground (CG)

The Northern Foreshores Copeton Dam Campground is located on the Auburn Vale Road on the picturesque foreshores of Copeton Dam. The site is nestled amongst a Flora and Fauna Reserve and is operated as a primitive camping area with a limited number of drive through powered and unpowered sites and a small shower and toilet block situated at the entrance to the reserve. Almost all sites have a good view of the water and offer you some magical sunsets.

New resident caretakers Tom and wife Donna, have been looking after the campground and its visitors for the last 7 months and offer you a small kiosk with ice, gas, drinks, bait and other basic provisions. There are no EFTPOS facilities available on site but the dam is only 17 kilometres from Inverell if you are in need of further supplies. Fire drums are available from the caretaker so you can either bring your own wood, collect wood from the grounds of the reserve or Tom is happy to provide you with wood for a small donation to the Westpac Helicopter Service. Mobile service in this area is limited so this is the perfect place to put technology away and relax with mother nature.

Copeton Dam serves as a popular inland fishing, sporting and recreational destination and offers year-round attractions for all. Fishing includes murray cod, golden perch (yellow belly), silver perch, redfin and catfish. NSW Fishing Licenses are available for purchase from the caretakers. If your a bird watcher then don’t forget to bring your camera. With over 67 different species seen in one day alone including some rare species, you will not want to miss that perfect picture. Bush walkers and nature lovers can enjoy unusual geological formations, lake and mountain views and a wide variety of plant life.

HOW TO GET THERE
From Inverell town centre take the Gwydir Highway West crossing the river opposite Coles.  After 600m turn left into Auburn Vale Road (NOT hard left); follow this for 18.8km to the Camping Area.

SITE ACCESS
You will go through a gate and report to the caretaker’s house.
If you are arriving late please call the caretaker to let him know.

RULES
Being a reserve a full list of campground rules is available from the caretaker on arrival.
Sites to be vacated by 10 am
Vehicles not to exceed 20km per hour.
No unattended fires.
No wood cutting or chainsaws.

THINGS TO DO
The northern shores of Copeton Dam is great for daytrippers keen to drop in from Inverell and wonderful spot for fishing, watersports, boating and bird watching.
Waters sports including skiing, wakeboarding. canoeing or kayaking. Also a great spot for Orienteering, Photography, BBQ’s & simply relaxing in nature.
