Mungallala Club Hotel (CG)

The Mungallala Hotel and its Caravan Park camp ground is about halfway between Roma and Charleville on the Warrego Highway in outback Queensland. It is well known and enjoyed by travellers out this way as a welcome place to stop for a meal or cool drink. Campers can also pull up at the campground at the rear of the pub to relax for a few days and explore the local area.

The powered sites will suit campers in tents and trailers, vans, motor homes and the like and as long as it’s not too crowded, there is room for a big rig to manoeuvre and set up as well. The campground is level and shaded with all amenities available, but not a lot else in the town. It may be wise to stock up at nearby larger centres on the way in.

This pub has all the charm of a typical Outback Australian Hotel, from the legendary hospitality to the memorabilia and messages scattered and scrawled about. The meals are hearty and hot and the beer is refreshingly cold.

The ever present local native birds, flora and fauna can all be observed here, as well as some friendly domesticated farm animals. For those interested in botany or natural history, the Tregole National Park just up the road near Morven on the way to Mitchell is an interesting place for a walk or picnic. The park contains a stand of Ooline trees, an ancient rainforest species now found in only a handful of areas in Australia, this one being particularly interesting due to its semi-arid location.

At least one of the around about 150 people who call this town ‘home’ camped at the pub ‘overnight’, fell in love with the town and never left it. You may be next!

HOW TO GET THERE
Mungallala is on the Warrego Highway 43.6km West of Mitchell or 44.8km East of Morven.  The Hotel is on the Northern side of the Highway, turn into Redfod Road for access via the rear.

Explore the remnants of the Gondwana era at the Ooline Park, a rare and endangered tree species.
