Kings Site Campground – Innamincka Regional Reserve (CG)

Innamincka Regional Reserve is a park of contrasts. Covering more than 1.3 million hectares of land, ranging from the life-giving wetlands of the Cooper Creek system to the stark arid outback, the reserve also sustains a large commercial beef cattle enterprise, and oil and gas fields.

The Kings Site is a great spot where basic camping is offered with a permit. It is recommended to be self sufficient as there is no facilities in this area. The site is accessible to camper trailers and off road caravans only.

HOW TO GET THERE
Innamincka is 1046km from Adelaide. Access is via the Strzelecki Track via Leigh Creek. Please refer to the latest Desert Parks Bulletin for current access and road condition information.

Please note: As this is a remote area please refer to GPS Co-Ordinates below; these are often approxiamate and provided in most cases to get you to the National Park entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping fees from $13.50 per vehicle (max 8 people).
Entry and camping fees can be paid at the Innamincka Trading Post on arrival.

Camping fees do not include Park Entry fees, these are charged separately.

Many National Parks in South Australia require a Park Pass to enter. The prices for the Park Parks may vary. Read more about FEES & PARK PASSES.

THINGS TO DO
Visit the sites of Burke and Wills’ fatal expedition: Burke’s and Wills’ graves where their bodies were found and originally buried; King’s tree, where John King, the sole survivor of the expedition, was found alive after being cared for by Aboriginal people; and the Dig Tree Historic Site just over the border in Queensland, where Burke and Wills returned to find their camp empty and a message carved in a tree telling them where to dig for supplies. The carving is still visible today.

Cullyamurra Waterhole is a beautiful spot on the Cooper, perfect for fishing, boating, camping or just relaxing.

Explore Innamincka township and its various features, including the Elizabeth Symon Nursing Home. Allow at least 30 minutes to view the interpretive display.

RULES
Wood fires and solid fuel fires are permitted outside the annual Fire Danger Season.
You must bring your own firewood, as the collection of firewood within National Parks is prohibited.
Gas fires are permitted through the year, other than on days of Total Fire Ban.
Generators are not allowed.
