Bush camping is available on High and Russell islands. Both camping areas have very limited facilities and campers must be self-sufficient. Bring a tarpaulin, drinking water, a fuel stove, food, tent, toilet paper and rubbish bags. See essentials to bring for further information.

Camping permits are required for both camping areas and fees apply for camping on High Island. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Poles are provided at each site for erecting tarpaulins. Campers must only use the sites delineated by tarpaulin posts and seats.

SITE ACCESS
Features: Private boat-based camping – only one group is permitted to camp at any one time

Location: access is from the sandspit on the north-west side of High Island.

Access: by private boat from either the Mulgrave or Russell river boat ramps. Sandbars at the mouth of Mutchero Inlet at Russell Heads makes crossing the shallow river mouth tide-dependent—check tide times before you go.

Number of sites: one large site. Maximum of 11 people.

Camp site is suitable for: boat based camping.

Camp site surface: sand/dirt.

Please note: GPS Co-Ordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.
