Henbury Meteorites Campground is located within the famous Henbury Meteorites Conservation Reserve. It has defined sites perfect for camping. The Reserve contains twelve craters which were formed when a meteor hit the earth’s surface 4,700 years ago. Most of the meteorite fragments have been removed from the site. The Reserve is accessible all year round, the cooler months from April to September being the most pleasant.
SITE ACCESS
The site is accessible via Ernest Giles Road.
Located 145km southwest of Alice Springs, the Reserve can be reached in a conventional 2WD vehicle. At 132 km south of Alice Springs, along the Stuart Highway there is a gravel road leading to Watarrka National Park – Kings Canyon. Travel along this road for 8 km, then turn north for 5 km to the Reserve’s entrance.
Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the National Park entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.
