The Galena Bridge Free Camping area lies adjacent to the Murchison River on the North West Coastal Highway. An approved 24 hour rest area that is very well maintained by the WA Main Roads.
Camping is available on both north and south sides of the river. The campsite is an extremely popular place to camp the night and although it’s a very large open area, it does tend to fill up very quickly so it’s best to arrive in the early afternoon.
There are toilets and dump points on both sides of the river but the south side has more facilities including 2 toilet blocks, waste bins, fire pits and picnic tables. Some shade is available and the large area is suitable for big rigs with plenty of turn around area. Take a relaxed bush walk, a dip in the river or just sit and watch all the birdlife. The rest area is a very tranquil place to rest up for the night.
HOW TO GET THERE
Located approximately 62.5 km north of Northampton and only 53 kms east of Kalbarri. Travelling north from Geraldton (113 kms) or Northampton (62 kms) on North West Coastal Highway turn off at GPS co-ordinates 27.833526 114.688659 1. It is also 13 klm north of the Kalbarri North turn off on the NWC Highway.
SITE ACCESS
Turn off North Coastal Highway. A blue road sign stating 24 hour Rest Area is at the turning point.
FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping is free with max stay 24 Hours. Arrival by early afternoon is advised due to popularity.
RULES
24 hour stop over is allowed for all vehicles including big rigs.
Collecting firewood is prohibited by law.
Campfires Prohibited between 15 October and 1 March.

THINGS TO DO
Galena Bridge Rest Area is a very peaceful area to rest up the night. Being an extremely popular stopover it’s a great place to sit around the fire pit and make new friends while sharing your travel stories. If you want some time to yourself there is plenty of area for those that love to bush walk. There are abandoned mine sites in the area so take care and stay within the designated area. The river is a great place to have a swim and cool off or just sit on the rivers edge and take in all the wildlife. Depending on the direction of your travels there are some amazing places close by for you to see.
