Welcome to Charlton Travellers Rest, an exceptional park set on the banks of the beautiful Avoca River.
The park is bordered by the local swimming pool (seasonal), bowling club and croquet lawns, and is pet friendly. The south and north sides of the park are divided by the river, with a swing bridge linking both.
The south side of the park comprises of 8 drive through en-suites, each with an individual area of lawn in front of your unit.
The north side of the park has grass powered and non-powered sites, a camp kitchen, laundry, toilets and showers.
The entire park is only 100 metres walking distance from the main street and shopping precinct.
HOW TO GET THERE
Charlton lies around halfway between Bendigo and Sea Lake on the Calder highway (A79). You can also approach from Donald from the West (C239), Boort from the North-East (C266), or St Arnaud from the South (C272).
To reach the Travellers Rest you need to be on the Calder Highway on the South side of the river and take John Curtin Drive heading north (Butcher on the corner and well signed).
SITE ACCESS
After turning into John Curtin drive, head straight ahead (now Davies Street) down to the rear of the park (approx 100m) where you will find the managers cabin/office. if unattended call the phone number provided on the door.
FEES & BOOKINGS

Fees are $10/3 nights for a fully self-contained site, $18/night for unpowered sites, $25/night for powered sites and $32/night for an en-suite.

THINGS TO DO
There is plenty to do in Charlton whether you just have a few hours or planning an extended visit. It is the perfect place to stay and explore, providing easy access for day trips to the Silo Art Trail and the surrounding towns of Boort, Donald, St. Arnaud, Wedderburn and Wycheproof.
The Travellers Rest, in the centre of town is a great place to freshen up after a long drive or a good starting point for a wander around the town. Take a stroll along High Street and visit the excellent retail outlets, cafes and food establishments. Information plaques have been attached to many of Charlton’s historic shops and public buildings, and a series of photographic panels depicting Charlton in earlier times makes interesting viewing. A walk north along the Avoca River amongst the river red gums and native birdlife (with information plaques), will take you to the Charlton Weir about 1km from town.
The Golden Grains Museum is well worth a visit. You can catch a film or live show at the historic/retro Rex Theatre. Just out of town on the Borung Highway you’ll find the Charlton Cemetery with a board detailing all of the interments and the Charlton Golf Course, abounding with native flora and fauna. The Wooroonook Lakes located 13km along the Borung Highway is a tranquil spot and further on, Mount Jeffcott wildflower reserve is a great spot for a 360 degree view of the area.
