THINGS TO DO
There is plenty to do in Charlton whether you just have a few hours or planning an extended visit. It is the perfect place to stay and explore, providing easy access for day trips to the Silo Art Trail and the surrounding towns of Boort, Donald, St. Arnaud, Wedderburn and Wycheproof.

The Travellers Rest, in the centre of town is a great place to freshen up after a long drive or a good starting point for a wander around the town. Take a stroll along High Street and visit the excellent retail outlets, cafes and food establishments. Information plaques have been attached to many of Charlton’s historic shops and public buildings, and a series of photographic panels depicting Charlton in earlier times makes interesting viewing. A walk north along the Avoca River amongst the river red gums and native birdlife (with information plaques), will take you to the Charlton Weir about 1km from town.

The Golden Grains Museum is well worth a visit. You can catch a film or live show at the historic/retro Rex Theatre. Just out of town on the Borung Highway you’ll find the Charlton Cemetery with a board detailing all of the interments and the Charlton Golf Course, abounding with native flora and fauna. The Wooroonook Lakes located 13km along the Borung Highway is a tranquil spot and further on, Mount Jeffcott wildflower reserve is a great spot for a 360 degree view of the area.
