Situated on the Barrier Highway around 160km north of Adelaide on the road to Broken Hill lies the State Heritage Listed town of Burra, an amalgamation many years ago of a number of smaller townships. This self proclaimed “Historic Copper Town and Merino Capital of the World” certainly has a wealth of excellently preserved historic Victorian Era buildings, sites and early mining equipment on display.

The Burra Caravan and Camping Park is located on the banks of Burra Creek, handy to the centre of town and perfect for exploring the sights. The ground is open and level, and there is room for everything from tents and vans right up to motorhomes, buses and fifth-wheelers. There are thirty powered sites as well as the large camping area, so plenty of room to set up.

The park contains all the expected amenities and is modern, well-kept and clean. WiFi is available and there is also a dump point. The park is pet friendly, provided all the normal common sense and courtesy procedures are followed.

As a large inland centre, all the usual facilities can be found in the town – shops, banks medical etc. The town’s unique “Heritage Passport Key”, which can be obtained at the Burra and Goyder Information Centre, will take you on an interesting, self-paced tour of the town’s historic sights, and the centre can also provide information about the wealth of fascinating sights in this area, all readily accessible from this comfortable base.
