Dorper Sheep Breeders, bush campsite, artists studio, and gallery.

Bretim’s Farm Campstay is a 65-acre sheep and cattle property situated 6kms from the village of Leyburn in the Southern Darling Downs, Queensland. Owners Brenda and Tim are experienced grey nomads and bought the property after being on the road for two years. They soon discovered that Tim’s Great Aunt had owned the farm back in 1902, so they surprisingly bought back the family farm.

While on their own travels they often stayed on cattle stations and private camps themselves and have now opened their back paddocks to offer a similar experience to other fellow travellers and to diversify and assist them while the area is drought declared.

Bretim’s campsites are set on a 7-8 acres section of the property and provide large, flat, shady drive-through sites along the banks of a seasonal creek. Situated at the back of the property, down a 1.2kms dirt farm track ensures you a peaceful bush camping experience nestled among the gum trees.

Bretim’s Farm Campstay is pet friendly but with roaming cattle, they must be on a lead. A long drop toilet, potable bore water, and a small rainwater tank are available, but due to the current drought, it may be advisable to BYO water. If needed, showers are available at the farmhouse for a small fee. Two shade sheds (no power) and allocated fireplaces with wood are available (subject to drought and fire bans).

Your host Brenda is an artist who creates original oil paintings and her daughter makes jewelry that they sell at local markets. These are available for you to view, so just ask Brenda and she will arrange a time to show you their work.

If you feel like a delicious pub dinner or takeaway meal, Leyburn is only 6kms drive from the farm. Leyburn’s local Post Office has supplies of bread and milk etc if needed or for more supplies, the town of Pittsworth is a short 40km drive north. Pittsworth is well serviced with Woolworths, Iga, Chemist, Doctors, Banks, Post Office, Mechanics, and a Hardware. The larger town of Warwick is a 45min drive and Toowoomba 50mins.

HOW TO GET THERE
Most direct access is via the Toowoomba-Karara Road about 29km south of Felton or 4km north of Leyburn. Look for Delahaye Drive and follow for about 2.5km until it turns into Millmerran Leyburn Road, continue along straight and you will come to a sharp right-hand bend, continue from here for about 1km until you see the entrance.

You can also approach the Yandilla end by taking the Millmerran Leyburn Road which starts about 4km north of Yandilla.

SITE ACCESS
Call the number below prior to arrival or once you are at the farm gate and someone will come and meet you and show you the way. Look for a black and white Bretim’s Farm sign and 3 big metal cattle rails.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Fee is from $12/night per couple for Unpowered Site, $6/extra person.

THINGS TO DO
Relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the campsite where nature is at its best. Or take a stroll around the property where you will see many different native birds and local wildlife including wallabies and kangaroos. Wild ducks and spoonbills often make use of the two dams as do the cattle that roam quietly through the paddocks.

Heritage Trail
Your heritage trail should include Leyburn School, circa 1862; Leyburn cemetery, St Matthew’s Catholic Church; Liberator Park which has a memorial to ‘Z special unit’ stationed here in World War II; and Leyburn airstrip.

There are regular local markets, and many local festivals and events happening at different times of the year in Leyburn, Millmerran, Warwick, Stanthorpe, and Toowoomba. Some include the Leyburn Sprints – a classic car sprint race around the village street in August every year, the Festival of Flowers in Toowoomba, the Apple and Grape Festival in Stanthorpe, and the Bony Mountain, and the Broxburn Bash Country Music Festivals.
