Breakaway Farmstay is a combined campground and bed and breakfast farmstay property located just 10 minute drive from Victor Harbor in Waitpinga SA. The 100 acre farm is the perfect base to take in all the attractions of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Breakaway Farmstay is the perfect place for travellers to relax, with large powered and unpowered campsites available for anything from tents to motorhomes. The sites are flat and shade is available. Rainwater is provided for drinking, but as supplies are limited, filling of water tanks is not allowed.

There are toilets, showers and shelters provided as well as a games room, camp kitchen and laundry. Campfires are permitted and there is a pool to cool off in during the warmer months and a BBQ area to relax in and enjoy the serenity.

Accommodation options are a 2-bedroom B&B unit that sleeps up to five or The Barn, which has four bedrooms with room for ten guests. Both are self-contained and have fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, TV, DVD and CD players, and games area. The B&B unit also has a wood heater for those cold winter nights. Linen and breakfast ingredients are supplied for the smaller unit, but for The Barn you’ll need to provide your own, though linen can be hired.

The property provides the perfect opportunity to get back to nature. Being a working farm, there is a variety of animals to be seen including cattle, sheep, goats, ducks and chickens. Depending on what is happening at the time, guests can get involved with farm activities such as feeding or moving stock during their stay, or maybe the kids just want to give the animals a pat. There is also wildlife on the property including kangaroos and native birds.

The nearby town of Victor Harbor is fully serviced with everything from day-to-day needs and places to eat to mechanics and medical services.

Bushwalking

Beaches
Waitpinga and Parsons beaches are nearby. Both are popular for fishing and surfing.

Wildlife
There are many places to see wildlife in the area, both in their natural environment and in parks. You can take a guided penguin tour at Granite Island Nature Park, or visit Urimbirra Wildlife Park, an open-range park with many species of native animals. Big Duck Boat Tours operates out of Victor Harbor and offers cruises to view whales (June to September), dolphins and seals, or visit the South Australian Whale Centre for information about whales and other marine creatures. If you’d like to travel further afield head for the Coorong to view the wildlife there.

Galleries and markets
There are a number of galleries to visit in Victor Harbor that feature a range of arts including Aboriginal, wildlife, wood and metal arts. For market shopping in Victor Harbor, head to the farmers market on Saturday mornings for local produce or the beachside variety market on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

Tram and train rides
The Victor Harbor causeway stretches for 630 meters from the town to Granite Island. While it’s possible to walk to the island, another option is to take the tram drawn by Clydesdale horses. Or for a scenic train ride between Victor Harbor and Goolwa, jump on board the Cockle Train.
