Big Crystal Creek Camping Area – Paluma Range National Park (CG)

Camp beside Big Crystal Creek.

Big Crystal Creek camping area is located beside Big Crystal Creek, this camping area is a popular swimming and picnic spot and a good place for birdwatching. The camping area can be reached by conventional vehicles. It is accessible to trailers and small caravans. Large caravans and buses are not recommended because it is a relatively small area with a narrow access road through the camping area.
Number of sites: open area without separately defined sites.
Campsites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car, walk-in camping, small caravans, camper trailers and small motorhomes.

SITE ACCESS
The campsite is 4km from the park entrance along the unsealed Spiegelhauer Road.
Access to the Mount Spec section is 61 km north of Townsville or 40 km south of Ingham.
From Townsville
Travel 61 km north of Townsville along the Bruce Highway before turning left at the southern turn-off onto Barrett Road. Drive 4 km west and turn left onto Mount Spec Road. From the turnoff drive 6km to Little Crystal Creek and 17 km to McClellands lookout and the Paluma township.
Birthday Creek Falls is located along Lake Paluma Road. From the Paluma township travel a further 5 km west along Mount Spec Road before turning right onto Lake Paluma Road. The car park is 7 km on the left.
To reach the Big Crystal Creek camping area, from Mount Spec Road turn off travel 2 km further along Barrett Road, and turn left onto Spiegelhauer Road. Drive a further 5 km to the Big Crystal Creek camping area.
From Ingham
Drive 40 km south along the Bruce Highway and turn right at the northern turn-off onto Barrett Road.
To reach the Big Crystal Creek camping area travel 1 km along Barrett Road, before turning right into Spiegelhauer Road. Big Crystal Creek camping area is 5 km further along.
To reach Little Crystal Creek, McClellands lookout and Paluma township, from the Spiegelhauer Road turn-off drive a further 2 km along Barrett Road. Turn right into Mount Spec Road and drive 6 km to Little Crystal Creek and 17 km to McClellands lookout and the Paluma township.
Birthday Creek Falls is located along Lake Paluma Road. From the Paluma township travel a further 5 km west along Mount Spec Road before turning right onto Lake Paluma Road. The car park is 7 km further along.

Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park, there should be signs of the actual campgrounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.
Fees for camping permits are:
$6.85 per person per night or $27.40 per family group per night.
$3.75 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions.
FAMILY RATE. For camping fees, a family group is defined as one or two adults and accompanying children under 18, up to a total of 8 people. Children under 5 years of age are free.

FACILITIES
Water (treat all water before drinking), flushing toilets, cold showers, picnic tables, and gas barbecues.

RULES
Keep to defined vehicle tracks and walking trails.
Camp in designated areas to avoid damage to fragile vegetation.
Take rubbish home with you – if you carry it in, carry it out.
