Camp near the banks of the Kangaroo River.

Bendeela is a rustic camping and picnic ground set in natural bushland on the banks of the Kangaroo River arm of Lake Yarrunga (Tallowa Dam), near Kangaroo Valley village. The camping ground is managed by the Sydney Catchment Authority which has wide open spaces and a lush setting, it is the perfect spot to relax and get back to nature.

The site is within a designated Special Area due to its closeness to the Shoalhaven water supply. Plants and animals in Special Areas are protected by law.

HOW TO GET THERE
Bendeela Recreation Area is about 150 kilometres drive from Sydney. From Sydney, follow the Hume Highway (F5) south towards Goulburn and take the Mittagong to Bowral turnoff (B73).  Follow the B73 for 48.6km (from Hume Highway) and turn right onto Bendeela Road. Follow for 3.8km and turn left then after 2.2km turn left again.

SITE ACCESS
The campground is around 400m from the turn-off and is a large area up to the river bank.

FEES & BOOKINGS
All campers are required to book in advance with a $6 booking fee. No camping will be permitted without a booking.
There is no charge for the use of this facility, so if you are staying at this site we encourage you to help keep it clean, and please visit and support the nearest town or village.

THINGS TO DO
After you pitch your caravan, hit the water for a swim, or head out canoeing or fishing. At night, look up as the stars put on a brilliant show.

Wombats are plentiful in the area and often wander through the camping grounds. Known as the ‘bulldozer of the night’, wombats eat grass, roots, bark, and fungus. When searching for food, they usually take a direct route – so be sure to secure your campsite belongings. Please do not feed, chase or touch the wombats – but a photograph is fine.

Throw down a rug and enjoy a picnic with family and friends on the scenic grounds. The riverbank in the rear camping ground is for day use only (no camping), so there is plenty of space. Swim, canoe or fish, or just enjoy the fresh air and bush surroundings.

Visit nearby Tallowa Dam, Fitzroy Falls Reservoir, Morton National Park, and Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre.

A great place. Large flat areas. Water taps (fresh) scattered around the area. Toilets and ‘dump point’. Actually the dump point is not much use to those without a removable cassette, but otherwise it works well. Watch out on weekends and school holidays as it can get crowded.
