On the banks of Lake Sambell, just a short walk from the centre of historic Beechworth, this family-friendly park has an accommodation option for every traveller, from affordable cabins and on site vans to large, sheltered powered and unpowered sites to suit anything from tents or trailers to motorhomes and the big rigs.
The sites are large and level, and the park has a well-stocked kiosk for necessities and LPG refills, and Beechworth has all the services and supplies you will need. The grounds are clean and well maintained and include all the facilities to make your stay a pleasant one, with plenty to keep the kids occupied as well.
The lake was originally part of an old gold mine complex, but has been upgraded to provide recreation areas, walks and access for swimming, kayaking, picnicking and the like. The area has a long and colourful history with gold mining since the early goldrush days in the area. The start of the Indigo Gold Trail is just one of the many activities that can be found in Beechworth, with its abundant historic buildings and shops in and around the town.
This park makes a great base to explore all that the region has to offer. There are walking and biking trails to appreciate the fascinating architecture and surrounding natural beauty, boutique wineries and craft beer breweries, fine food, markets – the list of activities in the area is endless.
The park offers CMCA Members who are registered with the Leave No Trace program the opportunity to stay in our un-powered camping area for just Beechworth Lake Sambell Caravan Park. Vehicles using this area must be fully self-contained, be able to hold their own black and grey water and be registered with the Leave No Trace program. HOW TO GET THERE
Driving to Beechworth is a comfortable 3 hours north of Melbourne, 4.5 hours south of Canberra and 7 hours from Sydney. It is accessed via Melbourne to Sydney’s major highway the Hume Freeway and then turning off at Wangaratta (South) or Wodonga (North) for the last 25-30 minute leg. Follow the blue caravan and camping signs through town.
SITE ACCESS
Reception is well-signed, head in for check in, plenty of room for big rigs because of the horseshoe driveway.

Fee is from $31/night per couple for unpowered sites and $37/night per couple for powered sites
THINGS TO DO
The park is located near the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, Beechworth Mountain Bike Park and provides access to many walking trails. Go swimming and fishing in the lake, play golf, read a book or just kick back and enjoy the spectacular view of Lake Sambell by the warmth of a campfire.
Beechworth is conveniently located near Victoria’s ski fields and Alpine areas to be enjoyed in all seasons. Special experiences for day tripping into the region will delight visitors to nearby towns of Bright, Rutherglen, and Milawa or nearby Murray River townships of Corowa and Yarrawonga.
