Back Channel Campground – Wave Hill Station Grafton (CG)

Wave Hill Station is a beautiful 5000 hectare working beef cattle property. Here you can experience the unique outback country life – a complete hideaway from the rest of the world.

Back Channel Campground is one of the three 4WD access only camping areas beside the river at the Clarence River Gorge. The site overlooks the Back Channel and the dramatic narrowing of the river which indicates the beginning of the Gorge itself.

It is approximately 200 metres above the Caves Falls and about 1.5kms down river from the junction of the Mann and Clarence Rivers There is one long drop toilet but no other facilities.

Perfect for 2 to 3 vehicles.

Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to access your campsite as we close the tracks about an hour before dusk for safety reasons. A one group at a time rule applies so be sure to book in advance. There is no access during wet weather.

HOW TO GET THERE
From Grafton take the B91 then turn off to the left onto Coaldale Road; continue through Coaldale to Upper Fine Flower and turn left (heading South) to Fine Flower (68km from Grafton); turn right onto Carnham Road and continue 6.2km to Wave Hill Station.

THINGS TO DO
This area is known as the best Bass fishing spot and also has the added advantage of being quite isolated from river traffic and other fisher people.

It is easy to launch a kayak and paddle upriver to the junction of the Clarence and The Mann rivers. Spectacular scenery and some great waterholes to fish along the way if you are so inclined.
