This site is a free campground without facilities with a maximum stay of 7 days. The campsite is accessible to motorhomes and off-road caravans. It is advisable to be self-sufficient, bring a portable toilet, gas/fuel stoves, drinking water and food.
Lake King William is part of the Franklin-Gordon Wild National Park which is in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. A Tasmanian Parks Pass is also required to camp/visit to this location.
This location is a Fuel Stove Only Area all year round. This is to protect the natural and cultural heritage values by reducing the risk of damaging bushfires. More information can be found HERE
Campfires are prohibited in Fuel Stove Only Areas and breaches of the regulation can result in a substantial fine.
HOW TO GET THERE
There are two camping areas at Lake King William, the one marked below on Google Maps is 1.8km South of the Derwent Bridge hotel; the camping area is only 100m from the highway. This may not be accessible at all times.
There is a second area accessed by turning off 3.6km South of the hotel and continuing around 900m to the boat ramp; this is less accessible to Big Rigs as there is limited turning space. Recommended for camper trailers only.
