Birdlife haven campground.
Situated about 8km from the substantial inland Victorian town of Rushworth, this 40 acre recreation and camping reserve is the home venue for the Moora Working Draught Horse club, Goulburn Valley Polocrosse club, G V Equestrian club and a host of other horse clubs and horse lovers. As such, there will often be some action and entertainment while you are here, with many regular events taking place, including riding lessons. Bird watchers and twitchers are also finding a stay at the reserve a rewarding experience, with many species having been noted.
The reserve is also the venue for some agricultural shows and country music festivals so visit the website or check with the organisers to confirm dates.
At present, the reserve would suit self-sufficient campers, from tents and vans through to the big rigs, as there is plenty of room to manoeuvre and set-up. The Committee is constantly upgrading the facilities when possible and every contribution helps. There is water available and the basic amenities. The site is mainly open and level, but there are also sheltered sites amongst the trees, so either way, you’ll find a spot that suits your needs and preferences.
The nearby town of Rushworth has a rich and colourful history going back to the early goldrush days on display at the local museum and many interesting examples of the architecture of the period are worth exploring, both in the town and all around the region. In town, you’ll find all the necessary facilities available – hospital and medical, IGA, banks, bakery, two pubs, police and also a dump point.
This is a Free Camp, but as with all such sites, upkeep and upgrading are recurring activities, so any and all donations are very gratefully accepted. Please ensure your campsite is kept and left, clean and tidy.
