Mulgildie Hotel Free Camp (FC)

Looking for a cold beer and a big country size hot pub meal 10kms south of Monto on the outback Queensland Burnett highway? Well, you’ll find them both at the Mulgildie Hotel, along with one of the best local art collections in the state. This free camp for caravanners and similar self-contained campers at the back of the hotel is fairly uncomplicated, but it’s adequate and for $4 you can use the bathroom and shower facilities inside. There are also some discounted meals at the pub for patrons of the campground.

The hotel was built in 1927. The resident ghost has apparently been photographed, and with a Bunyip’s Watering-hole just 10 minutes out of town, (complete with stories of disappearing cattle) those seeking a paranormal experience will certainly be kept busy.

Popular for its boating, fishing and swimming activities, the Wuruma Dam is about a half hour drive from Mulgildie, so you can make a day of it and still get back in time for dinner at the hotel. Not having to drive home after dinner is an added bonus, of course.

While you’re here, a visit to the Coominglah State Forest and the Cania Gorge National Park will reward you with stunning scenery and abundant local flora and fauna – well worth the trips.

HOW TO GET THERE
Mulgildie is located on the Burnett Highway between Eidsvold (61km) and Monto (13km).  The Hotel is on the South-Eastern side as you drive through.

SITE ACCESS
You can enter through the back door of the Public Bar 10am til Late to check in.
