A large family friendly park right next to the popular South Beach with views to Griffiths Island
With six hectares of park, there’s plenty of room and plenty of choice for even the biggest of rigs at this seaside, riverside, countryside park on the south west Victorian coast. There are plenty of powered or unpowered sites to choose from, with drive throughs available at no extra cost. There is also a large self-contained lodge available for large corporate / school groups or functions.
The clean, modern amenities are built to cope with the large number of campers expected at the local annual folk festival, usually held in early March. For the rest of the year, sites within easy reach of the camp kitchens and facilities are plentiful. This is a family and pet friendly park.
As well as being positioned right next to one of Port Fairy’s most famous beaches, there are plenty of activities to keep guests entertained, including kite flying at the Park’s reserve, exploring the playground or taking a short walk through the dunes to Pea Soup Beach. There’s also access to a variety of structured walking and cycling paths that are great to explore.
With great weather, stunning beaches and top class restaurants only short walk away a holiday in Port Fairy at Southcombe Caravan Park is a must.
The historic Port Fairy, with its fishing fleet, numerous restaurants and 50 National Heritage Buildings, is an easy walk from the park, as are Griffiths Island, with its resident colony of mutton birds, the Moyne River mouth for fishing and boating and the coast at Pea Soup Beach, which boasts excellent fishing all year round and delightful swimming, mostly enjoyed in the warmer months.
Just a short car trip brings you to Tower Hill Nature reserve, Victoria’s first declared National Park and located inside the crater of an extinct volcano. The town of Koroit is known as Australia’s best remaining example of early Irish settlement, and a little further east along the coast road brings you to Australia’s Twelve Apostles, most of which still stand proudly just off the coast.
HOW TO GET THERE
In the centre of Port Fairy turn East off Princes Highway at the BP Service Station onto Regent Street, after 450m turn right into James Street; follow for 850m and turn left into Southcombe Caravan Park – next door to the Port Fairy pool and tennis courts.
