Brigalow Creek is well known for its water-lilies and fishing for golden perch and jewfish. The campground is a large, flat, grassy area on the banks of the creek. With lots of shady trees, the area offers powered and unpowered sites for caravaners and campers. Toilet and shower facilities are directly opposite as is a dump point.

The council provides a good offer of paying the first night’s use, then the second and third nights are free. Maximum length of stay is 14 days and council rangers come to the site to collect fees.


HOW TO GET THERE
Meandarra is 55km South of Condamine, 154km West of Dalby, or 90km East of Surat at the junction of the Surat Development Road (State Route 87) and Condamine-Meandarra Road (State Route 74). 

SITE ACCESS
The site is on the corner of the Condamine-Meandarra Road  where it enters the town area from the North.

FEES & BOOKING
$10 for the first night and the second and third nights are free; then $10/night for a maximum stay of 14 days.

THINGS TO DO
Meandarra is the hub of a prime production area of grain, cattle, and sheep and is the location of a popular fishing and camping spot. Meandarra is considered the cultural centre of the Tara area, with the historic School of Arts Hall, local artists and hand-crafts.

The Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum typifies the bravery and self sacrifice of the first ANZACs, housing a large and comprehensive military memorabilia collected over the past 30 years. The artefacts cover many of the battles in which our local war veterans fought, representing the three Armed Services of Navy, Army and Air Force. The contrasting diversity of the Museum’s pieces gives Meandarra a very unique collection including a Canberra Bomber aeroplane, a Grant Tank in North African colours and a Water Buffalo tank from the South West Pacific Campaigns.

We recently just camped along the river at Meandarra. The area is nice and green and shady we pulled up excited to camp however it is all full of burs. We camped with our one year old which was really hard as the burs got into everything and I couldn’t put her down to play. Or we would take her to the road and foot path or dirt patch but that was tricky too because there is broken glass absolutely everywhere from irresponsible campers. Such a shame people need to leave there smashed glass because it really is a beautiful spot. So make sure you’ve got boots, gumboots or descent closed in shoes.

We had a visitor 4 times from a red belly black snake who was totally oblivious to us being there. A few times we would be sitting at the tables on the kids playing on the footpath and he would just slide out of the water up towards the kids past their feet. So you also need to be on snake watch ?? The showers at the other end wernt available as they were getting fixed so we used the showers at the powered sites where I got abused by an older lady for showering 2 times in one day. Little did she know my girls asthma was playing up which it hasn’t in years so the steam in the mornings was good and to get rid of camp-fire smoke smell and the afternoons was needed due to the kids getting dirty anyways. She wasn’t very pleasant and deterred me after that. On our last day from talking to other campers I then found out that the tennis courts building near our camp was available for toilet and showers so we used them instead. We did have a great time apart from a few things. We caught 4 yellow belly 2 we kept the others were too small. We also caught some Jews and a euro. The children heard the crop spraying planes taking off and landing so we headed up to watch them from the road. When we spoke to the pilots and told them we were camping along the river bank they then did a detour flight along the river for us which the children loved. The children had a ball fishing they were constantly checking their lines morning and night and loved putting worms on. We found worms were the favourite.

We definitely will be back and hope to visit the Anzac museum next time.
