If you’re looking for a real Australian outback experience, you can’t go past Yaraka. On the road through Isisford between Longreach and Windorah, the tiny town, the hospitality and the bush combine to make your stay here an unforgettable experience.

The campground, with powered sites and good amenities, is provided by the local Longreach Council. There is room for all sizes and types of rigs and the open ground is level. The pub also has accommodation if you need it. The dining room is open for breakfast lunch and dinner and the bar is always a good option for a cool refreshing drink after a hot day.

The town also has Post Office facilities, fuel and ice are available and the Flying Doctor holds a fortnightly clinic or is accessible for emergencies.

The surrounding area provides many fantastic photo opportunities for the photographers among us. The local mesa topped hills provide perfect vistas, with popular nearby Mt. Slowcombe having bar-b-q facilities, picnic area and toilets provided. The countryside and nearby waterholes attract abundant birds and wildlife as well, and are all favourites for the snap-happy traveller.

The local area was settled primarily for sheep grazing, but harsh weather conditions have seen most of the stations disappear. Opal fossicking is something to try your hand at while in the area as well, with some finds of good boulder opal in the past being enough to keep some claims open and still being worked.
