Hedleys camping area features a sheltered camping area on the edge of Great Sandy Strait. The camping area can be reached by boat. Conventional vehicles with high clearance in dry conditions and 4WD via private property-an additional fee is payable to the private property owners if entering by road. It is accessible for high clearance trailers: caravans: buses: motor homes.
Number of sites: open area without separately defined sites. Maximum group size 30 people.
Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car, caravans, camper trailers, (small) motor homes and large groups.
Camp site surface: grass and sand.
SITE ACCESS
By boat the camping area is accessible from the Great Sandy Strait. The nearest boat ramps are located at Log Dump camping area, Tinnanbar and Tin Can Bay. Consult boating safety charts to access camping areas by boat.
By vehicle from the Cooloola Coast Road-Tinnanbar Road junction travel 11.7km on gravel road to the signed camping area turnoff and then another 3km through private property to the camping area. An additional fee is payable to the private property owners if entering by road.
Tuan lies on the western edge of the Great Sandy Strait between the Tin Can Bay military training area and the township of Boonooroo.
Registered vehicles, horses and bicycles may be driven or ridden on formed roads in this forest. Conditionally registered vehicles are not permitted.
The forest is about 45 minutes’ drive north-east of Gympie, and 20 minutes’ drive south-east of Maryborough.
From south Gympie, take the Tin Can Bay-Rainbow Beach turn off and follow for approximately 40kms. Turn left on to Cooloola Coast Road and travel 23kms towards Maryborough to the Tinnanbar turnoff (on the right).
From Maryborough, head towards Boonooroo then take the Cooloola Coast Road. Drive 19km along the Cooloola Coast Road to the Tinnanbar turnoff.
Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.
FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.
Fees for camping permits are:
$5.75 per person per night or $23.00 per family group per night.
$3.20 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions.
FAMILY RATE. For camping fees, a family group is defined as one or two adults and accompanying children under 18, up to a total of 8 people. Children under 5 years of age are free.
