Castle Rock camping area has semi-grassed and semi-shaded sites suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravans and motorhomes. When booking, you must choose either a tent or camper trailer/caravan site. Sites are not numbered and available on a first come basis. Castle Rock camping area can be reached by conventional vehicle. It is accessible for trailers, caravans and buses. In some cases, it is not possible to park near your tent site.
Camper trailer/caravan sites: twenty-five dedicated sites are available for motor homes, campervans, caravans and camper trailers only. Tent sites are available adjacent to the trailer sites. Some sites allow full sun for greater solar power availability. Tent sites: tent sites are in an open, semi-grassed area with vehicle parking around the perimeter. This camping area is more suited to larger groups than Bald Rock Creek camping area.
Camp site surface: hard decomposed granite soil, dirt, grass.
SITE ACCESS
Castle Rock Creek camping area is situated 100 m from the QPWS information centre, on the southern side of Pyramids Road.
Girraween is situated approximately 260 km by road south-west of Brisbane. To reach the park, turn off the New England Highway 26 km south of Stanthorpe or 30 km north of Tenterfield. The winding bitumen road continues a further 9 km east through the Wyberba Valley to the park information centre.
The alternative road from Stanthorpe to Girraween via Eukey and Storm King Dam has some gravel sections.
Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.
FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite. Book up to 12 months in advance.
Fees for camping permits are:
$6.55 per person per night or $26.20 per family group per night.
$3.60 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions.
FAMILY RATE. For camping fees, a family group is defined as one or two adults and accompanying children under 18, up to a total of 8 people. Children under 5 years of age are free. Read more about CAMPING COSTS & BOOKINGS.
FACILITIES
Hot showers, toilets, picnic tables, water (treat before drinking) and communal wood barbecues. The Castle Rock camping area amenities block has wheelchair access. As rubbish bins are not provided you must take your rubbish with you when you leave. There are no powered sites.
RULES
Keep to defined vehicle tracks and walking trails.
Camp in designated areas to avoid damage to fragile vegetation.
Take rubbish home with you – if you carry it in, carry it out.
