The Back of Bourke is more than a geographic location, it’s part of the Australian language, part of the folklore. The Back o’ Bourke Exhibition Centre is now a part of the Visitor Information Centre on the Mitchell Highway to the North of the town.
HOW TO GET THERE
The “new” Bourke information Centre is located to the North of the town right on the Mitchell Highway. If coming from the North (Cunnamulla/) it is 4.2km past the North Bourke Bridge. From the South (Bourke town area) it is 1.7km from the Mitchell Street (Kailaroi Highway) junction. There is also a Dump Point and Water at this location.
THINGS TO DO
Be you a photographer, naturalist, historian, reader of bush literature, bird watcher, visitor from overseas or just an Aussie looking to discover your roots, pack up your swag and come ‘Back o’ Bourke’
The best way to really get your bearings in Bourke is to start at the Tourist Information Centre. A highly informative display will orient you to Bourke’s past and present and the friendly staff there will help you with all the necessary information to make your stay enjoyable.
The centre offers travellers general information, including road reports, weather reports and do it yourself Mud Map tours, you may have heard of in the past. We have a great selection of souvenirs for sale and a great display of photos and history of the Bourke district.
