Mary Kathleen is an old uranium mining town which was abandoned in 1984 and now remains a ghost town with roads and concrete pads remaining. They permit overnight stays, but there are no facilities at the site.
HOW TO GET THERE
The turn off is clearly signed from the Barkly Highway and is 64.6km from CLoncurry or 57km from Mt Isa. The GPS reference below is at the turn off.
SITE ACCESS
You can follow the old access road which brings you to a junction with the old town area to the right and the mine area to the left. Some of this access road is washed away at the creek crossing. When FRC visited the area there was a turn through a gateway to the right only a short distance from the highway; this is used b y the local proprty and will take you straight into the end of the old town in the visinity of the old Swimming Pool (filled in) and their old Caravan Park area.

There is no charge for the use of this facility, so if you are staying at this site we encourage you to help keep it clean, and please visit and support the local communities.

There are no facilities at this location so please take your rubbish with you and respect the environment.
RULES
The area is leased by a local property and you are requested not to remove any rocks or vegetation and leave the area as you find it.
THINGS TO DO
You can explore the old town area an also drive down to the old mine site and see the spectacular colour of the water; please note there is very deep water in the old mine.
