Whist this site is technically a rest area it has been approved for overnight stays for a maximum of 20 Hours for travellers.
HOW TO GET THERE
Chatsworth Rest Area is 6.5km North of Gympie, or 6.3km South of the Bruce Highway/Wide Bay Highway junction and is just off the Bruce highway via Vantage Road.
Turn into Vantage Road then immediately left into the rest Area. There is room to park along the side here and also an area to your right with six “reverse in” bays for caravans. Do not proceed past this if there is much ahead as turning space is limited at the end. This is a very popular site and gets very busy by early afternoon.
A toilet block and picnic tables are located in the small park at the end.
There is a limit of 20 hours at this location.
Rest areas are there for you to rest, making your trip safer and more enjoyable.
Rest areas are not long-term camping sites. However, motorists are able to take extended rest breaks at some sites. Rules on the length of stay at rest areas vary between controlling authorities.
Caravans and motorhomes are not considered heavy vehicles, and should not stop at heavy vehicle locations.
Please note: Rest areas are not designed to be camping grounds or caravan parks. Using rest areas for multiple overnight stays as part of a planned itinerary is not in keeping with their intended purpose. Those needing facilities for an extended stay are encouraged to look for camping areas or caravan parks in towns along the way.
FRC is still in the process of obtaining more information about this site.
